What It Involves
As a general member of our club, you'll be involved only in one of the three branches we offer--music, art and writing, or coding. While we hope you have a general interest in the branch you choose, we do not require any prior experience!
Each branch goes on two trips per week, although you only need to choose one to attend. We do ask, however, that you attend the same trip every week so that you can build relationships with the kids. Each trip takes place at one of our three community partner locations--Mission:City, Conant, or DCS--in Detroit, and transportation will be provided, typically by way of carpooling with your trip leader. Including drive time, it ends up being a ~4 hour commitment per week.
Unless you decide to become a lesson planner later on, you will not be responsible for coming up with content for each lesson. Instead, leadership will send you a weekly lesson plan, and we just ask that you find time to review it before the trip. Each branch runs slightly differently, however most trips have 2-4 teachers attending, so you will never be responsible for running lessons and/or watching the kids by yourself.
Aside from weekly trips, Seven Mile has teacher training at the beginning of the semester that is mandatory for all members to attend, as well as mandatory monthly meetings.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!
