Our Story
In 2013, University of Michigan student Sam Saunders founded Seven Mile in direct response to the harsh cuts to the music and arts education funding in Detroit public schools. While it started as a music program, the student-led organization has expanded to include art, writing, and coding enrichment as well.
With many Detroit schools now being able to allocate more funds to the arts, Seven Mile works closely with several community partners to provide additional exposure outside of school. Our mission is to provide all Detroit youth with access to music, art, and coding enrichment opportunities through meaningful relationships between U of M student mentors, students, and community partners.

What We Do
Seven Mile is a club at the University of Michigan that offers free, weekly lessons in music, arts, and coding for youth in Detroit through our various community partners. These lessons are written and run by U of M students, with a focus on exposure and community.
