Seven Mile Music

Seven Mile Music has reached hundreds of students across Detroit since it began in 2013, and the program continues to grow. Currently, we offer weekly music lessons during the school year in Brightmoor at Mission:City and Detroit Community Schools.
Like our other branches, our music branch is made up of University of Michigan student volunteers who come from a variety of backgrounds. We have music majors in the School of Music, Theater, and Dance, members of the Michigan Marching Band, trained student musicians, and more. Through Seven Mile, students will learn music foundations including rhythms, reading notes, and intonation. They practice individual and ensemble performance, including an ensemble choir. Instruments students can learn include guitar, piano, violin, recorder, and more. At the end of each term, students perform in a final concert for parents, family, and community members, showcasing the skills they learned throughout the semester. |
